John Coles Park, Chippenham

A sunny afternoon was a splendid way to end the Chippenham bandstand season. We played marches, theme tunes and swing band era pieces with the audience clapping often, much to our delight. Hawaii-5-0 made an appearance as did Magnificent Men and a medley from Pirates of the Caribbean. Our penultimate piece “We’ll Meet Again” in anticipation of May 2016’s start of bandstand season at John Coles Park!

It was lovely to see so many people enjoying Sunday afternoon in the park. One little dog even wore a cute flat cap!

A surprising burst of September sunshine left band members relieved to have suncream and hats on this Saturday afternoon. We had a great turnout of band members; if only the audience could have been quite so numerous, but there were vintage guns going off further into the park which may have deterred visitors (as well as an inconveniently shut bridge.) The pieces best received were “Locomotion” and “Rock Around The Clock” which had people close to dancing. In a more serious part of the afternoon, we played “Sunset” with buglers as flags were raised with the mayor in attendance. Our bandmaster even headed to the memorial to play whilst we had our packed lunches!
